GRIMALDI FILM POSTER.

In our group we had clearly allocated specific roles to everybody. One of Taylor’s many roles within the group was to create a film poster. Taylor had 3 attempts before we all agreed on the last poster. Moe, Sam and me as well as our teacher Nina gave both positive and negative critique on the things we liked and did not like. Before Saul Bass started to create innovative and memorable title sequences, films used to be heavily marketed on the actors faces as they would endorse the film. This meant that films posters used to use the actors pictures instead of other images. This is why we thought it was Imperative that we had a film poster that the mass public were both aware of and intrigued them. Our poster has an evil clown on the front. We as a group thought that not one clown was enough but we needed more of their faces which is why we all finally agreed on 4, this was because we all believe that there is more to Grimaldi than meets the eye, he is a multi layered character and we wanted each face to be a representation of that.

The first poster created. We all liked it but thought that it was a bit plain and typical, we all agreed that the typography should be a diffrent colour as white was not the colour we wanted. This has only one clown face which is creepy but it looked rather simplistic.

The second poster. We all liked the way Taylor had filled in the Grimaldi title in a flame covered red. We thought it stood out a bit more. Infact we liked the red, it looks as if it was burning. But there was still something missing.

Third and final poster. We all previously discussed that Grimaldi had many faces a multi-layered character. He has a cute friendly face but at the same time its evil. Taylor took this on board and created the four faces which symbolise Grimaldi. We all thought it was more dramatic and that the mass public would find it interesting. There is also a certificate 15 on the poster as there are things in the sequence inappropriate for anybody younger such as violence, explicit language. We wanted to make it clear what audience this film is for. My name is on the top left hand corner; all the other names are in the other corners. This is because we are very proud of our work and also we want the focus to be on Grimaldi hence why names are are in a smaller font and at the sides.

Before Taylor came up with this poster design we researched and tried to find other posters that had clowns in the poster. Batman which has the joker in the film was a major inspiration for this poster. It’s playful yet psychotic.

These are all film posters with clowns that are evil.
