analysis of catch me if you can

Catch me if you can is 2002 crime film and biopic based on the life of Frank Abagnale Jr who successfully conned millions of dollars by posing as a Pan American pilot, Doctor and lawyer.  The film is directed by Steven Spielberg and stars Tom Hanks and Leonardo DiCaprio. Kuntzel and Deygas have created this opening which is very creative and memorable. The first scene we see is the shot when we are introduced to film production company (Dream Works). The back drop is a light blue which is supposed to symbolize the night sky and it has stars. The night sky with the stars could represent the idea of dreaming and sleeping hence why the film production company logo and the background has been created like that. It's a popular film company, the logo is easy to remember and recognise so the audience automatically connect with the film.

The viewer is first introduced to the main character which is a slender figure. White airplanes then emerge from the typography maybe to let the viewer know about specific things that happens in the film such as when the main character pretends to be a pilot. We then can see 6 other characters which are pilots, the air hostesses also come out of the lines and the slender character stands in front of the line cautiously and then walks through the line which could symbolize a door. The character emerges as a pilot as well.
The slender skeletal figures show us by a sequence of events what will happen in the film. Such as becoming a doctor, lawyer, and a pilot. Whilst being chased by the other figure which seems to follow him where ever he goes and he also maintains the same appearnace the whole way through (a suit and hat). Whereas the other charcter always changes his outfits due to his new profession. We are left at a cliff hanger at the end with the two figures still chasing eachother, so the audience do not know until they watch the film if he gets caught. The audinece is left wondering why this man is following this other man, and why he keeps wearing this diffrent outfits.

This sequence has some Saul Bass inspired features due to the graphic animations. The people are all black and the background shifts from light blue, yellow and black. The typography is small white when presenting the producers/etc names and black when presenting the actors names. It is very subtle and blends in with the animation. The use of the black lines reminds me of Saul Bass's the man with the golden arm. The soundtrack sounds very on edge, bouncy, jazzy and tense at times. This hightens the tension between the viewer, they are wondering if this character will get caught or not. This ties well with the name of the film ' Catch me if you can'
