Some film inspirations

Inspirations
As we started to flesh out our clown based thriller idea, we had to find films to research that had a clown character as an antagonist. This is when I watched IT, with the clown Penny wise who was also a multifaceted character. The difference between him and Grimaldi is that Grimaldi is just a soft toy. I enjoyed watching it and I liked the juxtaposition on this clown character, clowns are supposed to funny, light hearted and amusing. This clown was dark, gruesome, evil and a nightmare. This is why the idea of Grimaldi appealed to me so much and i think it will appeal to other people because the soft toy is very cute. After finding the film IT. I looked back and remembered a whole catalogue of videos that were in my house. They all had toys that were evil in them and this is why the bride of Chucky, Dolly dearest, Magic and demonic toys were all films from around the early 90’s. The thing they all had in common with my title sequence was that these were all children’s toys just like Grimaldi. The fact that things so sweet and innocent being so horrible and tortures are the thing I really liked. Watching all these films at our group screenings really helped Moe, Taylor, Sam and I realise what direction our psychological thriller was going in. Also for the scene where the antagonist try’s to put their arm in Samantha's door as she comes in from the outside, is inspired by the film
Psycho’s famous shower scene specifically. We want the antagonist to remain at large and not be recognised so all that can be seen is his hand. Due to the fact it was dark and because of the angles and position we shot the sequence in, it was not possible to have a shadow in the scene. Even though it does not look like the shower scene from psycho we changed it to suit our specific needs/requirements. That scene just gave us all a clear indication of how we wanted it to look and how we want the viewer to feel as they watch it. Which is scared, shocked, confused and we would also like them to anticipate and what to see the whole film.

The viewer can not see the antagonist.

All these film posters are about evil toys or toys seen to be mystikal and evil, just like Grimaldi may appear....

SCREAM

The 1990's slasher film scream is a big influence in this film especially as the plot develops. The viewer learns that Grimaldi is not a evil clown but he is being used to play mind games on Samanatha by her boyfriend. In scream the main killer is the hereos boyfriend but she does not find out till the end.
Scream is not only a good film but it challenges the aviewer they go through moment of certianty and moments of doubt. You can never be too sure on who the real killer is and this is the same with Grimaldi.
